Police in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have detained Ulagu Philemon Chukwuma, 29, for allegedly masterminding the abduction of his employer’s 12-year-old son, Justin Nwakwo.

Justin was taken on February 10, 2024, in Jabi, Abuja.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Command Public Relations Officer, Philemon, employed as a chef for the Nwakwo family, was arrested by officers from the Utako Police Divisional Headquarters, who were conducting investigations to rescue the kidnapped boy and capture the culprits.

Adeh’s statement disclosed, “Investigations revealed that the principal suspect, who confessed to the crime, colluded with one Mc Donald Arinze, who is currently at large.

“The suspects had earlier extorted a ransom of three million, nine hundred thousand naira (N3,900,000) from the victim’s father. However, police efforts led to the arrest of the criminals.

“The boy was safely rescued and reunited with his parents, and the ransom money was recovered.

“While the hunt continues for the fugitive suspects, CP Benneth C. Igwe, Commissioner of Police, FCT, reiterates his commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents. He advises residents to involve the Police in vetting their domestic workers, given the emerging trend of kidnapping involving such personnel. Suspicious activities can be reported through emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883; PCB: 09022222352.”
