In the early hours of Wednesday, officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invaded some students hostels in Oduduwa Estate near the Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State.

An anonymous source staying in the hostel confirmed the forceful invasion of the hostels and claimed that the anti-graft agency arrested a yet-to-be-ascertained number of students.

Another occupant who stays at Fine Touch Hostel, maintained that the officials came with official vehicles and EFCC jackets. The raiding started around past 1am as they forcefully entered rooms and went away with students

Another student who stays in SuperB Hostel said the officials of the EFCC came and started hitting doors, asking people to open up.

“When they came to my room, they asked me to switch on the light, asked for my man and checked the toilet and kitchen, then left. They came back and asked me to switch off my phone then left again,” the student corroborated.

The acting CSO of the institution identified only as Adegboyega confirmed the invasion of the students’ hostels and the arrest of some students.

On his part, Dele Oyewale, spokesperson of the EFCC, confirmed that 69 internet fraud suspects were arrested in the area.

While stressing that operatives from the commission’s Ibadan zonal command acted on intelligence that the suspects were involved in internet crime, Oyewale said;

“Credible intelligence linked Oduduwa Estate with suspected internet fraud”.

“Items recovered include exotic cars, 190 mobile phones and 40 laptops among others.

“The suspects have made useful statements to the EFCC and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded”.
