The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IE) has unveiled a significant update, declaring that, effective November 1, 2023, only customers who have linked their National Identity Numbers (NIN) to their meters will be eligible to receive the essential two sets of 20-digit energy tokens for powering their homes.

In an announcement made on Thursday via their official communication channel, the DisCo emphasized the importance of this initiative, citing its role in bolstering the security and efficiency of the electricity distribution system.

The company cautioned that customers who fail to comply with this directive will find themselves unable to access energy tokens on subsequent occasions.

In a statement issued by the DisCo, it stated,

“Dear Esteemed Customer, Effective November 1, 2023, only customers who have linked their NIN will receive two sets of 20-digit tokens required to load energy tokens.”

Customers have been encouraged to complete the NIN-meters linkage process promptly by visiting the dedicated portal at https://smartkyc.ikejaelectric.com/nin_index.xhtml.

Importantly, this process of linking the NIN to meters is provided to customers without any associated charges. Additionally, those who have previously connected their NIN to their meters need not undertake the procedure once again.

The statement further clarified the order of preference when linking NIN, stating,

“The landlord’s NIN is the first choice to be linked as the owner of the property. However, tenants can also undertake this task, but they are limited to linking only one meter with the option to unlink when vacating the property.”
