The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended Saleh Idris, the 56-year-old chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Roni Local Government Area, on charges of sexually assaulting his housemaid.

CSC Adamu Shehu, the official spokesperson for the NSCDC in Jigawa State, has verified this arrest through an official statement issued to Daily Post.

The arrest transpired on Wednesday, triggered by a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, who asserted that Saleh Idris had sexually assaulted and impregnated his 14-year-old sister, who was employed as a house-help in Idris’s residence.

According to the victim’s brother,

“The case was reported at NSCDC Roni LGA Division after a failed agreement reached at the Hisba office on taking responsibility. Instead, he was pressuring the family to abort the pregnancy.

“The victim’s initial encounter with the suspect occurred when Idris offered her a drink while his wife was not at home, causing her to lose consciousness. He took advantage of her in that vulnerable state.

“After regaining consciousness, the victim was threatened by Idris not to reveal the incident, under the threat of losing her monthly allowances. Consequently, this disturbing pattern continued, with the victim keeping silent until her pregnancy became evident.”

CSC Adamu Shehu disclosed that upon questioning, Saleh Idris refuted the accusations, and the case has been forwarded to the court.

This case is in violation of section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of Jigawa State, and is subject to penalties as specified in the same Act.
