‘Killaboi’ arrested in Sierra Leone for murdering girlfriend

A Nigerian man, Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin aka “Killaboi”, who was arrested by the police in Sierra Leone for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, in July 13, 2023, has confessed that he killed the 21-year-old woman.

In his initial confession, Benjamin had taken to Instagram, saying,

“I deeply regret the series of events that led to this tragedy, born from a place of pain, betrayal, and toxic arguments. I wish it never happened. I didn’t plan any of this. After the incident, fear took over, and I ran away.”

Recall that back in July 2023, Benjamin, who went by the alias “Killaboi” on Instagram, openly admitted to the crime but never turned himself in. Subsequently, he fled Nigeria. Then, earlier this month, on October 10, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command declared him wanted.

During his time on the run from the law enforcement, Benjamin continued to make confessions through his Instagram account.

Meanwhile, after the purported confessions, he ran to Sierra Leone and changed his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel. He also secured a Sierra Leonean passport on the 28th July 2023, exactly 15 days after he had allegedly murdered Augusta.

He was later arrested at a club in Freetown by the Sierra Leonean police on Friday.

Also speaking on Saturday, a family source said,

“We thank the bereaved family of Augusta. We appreciate the sacrifice of Mrs. Cordellia Onuwabhagbe who deployed resources to hunt the killer of her daughter.

“The decision of the Lagos State Police Command to declare the suspect was helpful in convincing the Police in Sierra Leone that Best was wanted in Nigeria for first-degree murder. We commend the Sierra Leonean police authorities for the speedy arrest of the suspect.”
