On Thursday, Sani Ukasha, aged 31, was sentenced to three months in prison by an Area Court in Jos for his failure to produce an accused person for whom he had stood as surety.

Ukasha, who pleaded guilty to the charge and requested leniency, received the sentence from Judge Shawomi Bokkos. However, Bokkos also provided the surety with the option of paying a fine of ₦10,000.

During the court proceedings, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, the prosecutor, informed the court that Ukasha had failed to produce the accused individual in a case involving theft of seasoning cubes.

Gokwat pointed out that Ukasha’s failure to fulfill his obligation to produce the accused person when required was a violation of the Plateau State Penal Code.
