The Nigerian Police Force has verified the tragic incident in which at least four individuals lost their lives during a violent invasion of a supermarket in One Man Village, near Mararaba, located in the Karu Local Government Area.

According to reports, the assailants, armed and dangerous, stormed the supermarket around 8:45pm on Tuesday, targeting and fatally injuring four customers.

A video sourced from the event by PUNCH captured a voice noting that one of the deceased was in possession of an identity card from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Nasarawa police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, further corroborated the events, indicating that four lives were indeed lost during the attack. He elaborated that the Commissioner of Police for the state has instructed the Deputy Commissioner overseeing the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) to lead a thorough investigation into the matter.

Nansel stated, “I wish to confirm that on January 2, 2024, some hoodlums numbering four attacked the Wisdom Supermarket at Adehi, Karu local government shooting sporadically. The armed men opened fire on customers and four persons were recovered and taken to the hospital where they were confirmed dead by the doctors.

“Their corpses have been deposited at Maraba Medical Centre. The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigative Department in Lafia to move to the scene and carry out a comprehensive investigation into the case. The outcome of the investigation will be made known.”

This incident follows closely on the heels of another distressing event in the region. Just a day prior, Safiyanu Isa Andaha, the chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, along with his political mentor, Adamu Umar, were abducted on New Year’s Day.

Fortunately, they were later released, reportedly after ransom payments were made to their captors.
