The Presidential Tribunal in Abuja has reserved judgment on the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, challenging the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The respondents in the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission, Bola Tinubu, and the All Progressives Party. The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Simon Tsammani, stated that judgment would be delivered on a date to be communicated to all parties involved. Atiku’s lead counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, argued for Tinubu’s disqualification based on a previous American Court judgment.

The APC’s counsel, Lateef Fagbemi, countered that the forfeiture was civil and not a disqualification factor. Tinubu’s counsel, Wole Olanipekun SAN, urged the dismissal of the petition, stating that the grievances were targeted at the Independent National Electoral Commission.

INEC’s counsel, Abubakar Mahmoud, emphasized INEC’s good intentions to conduct a credible election with technology adoption and refuted the claim that the glitch on IReV affected the election outcome.
