Lagos teacher has been arraigned in court for allegedly flogging nine-year-old student.
Aderonke Makinde, a 35-year-old teacher, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrates court in Lagos State for allegedly flogging a nine-year-old girl with a cane at a school in Mushin.
The incident is said to have occurred on March 28, 2023, at Westgate Land Emperial Creche, Nursery and Primary School located at No. 1 Okesanya Street, Papa-Ajao, Mushin. Makinde is facing one count of assault and was charged under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to LIB, the police prosecutor, DSP Ajayi Kehinde, told the court that Makinde committed the offense by assaulting Oyinkansola Kayode, a nine-year-old student, by flogging her with a cane. Makinde pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her.
The Magistrate, E. Kubenje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, and the case has been adjourned till June 7, 2023.
