Police operatives from the Abagana Division in the Anambra command successfully rescued an elderly woman from the abusive clutches of her 50-year-old daughter, Ukamaka Udeugbo, at Umudunu village, Abagana in Njikoka local government area.

A disturbing video that went viral depicted Ukamaka repeatedly flogging her vulnerable mother while she was naked, further subjecting her to the humiliation of having buckets of water thrown on her as she lay defenseless on the floor.

Taking swift action, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed Ukamaka’s arrest, ensuring that she would be prosecuted for her cruel actions. In the best interest of the public, the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Recognizing the urgency of providing proper care for the elderly victim, the Commissioner of Police authorized that she be handed over to the Commissioner for Women Affairs to receive adequate support and attention from the Anambra State government.

The PPRO further stated that after a thorough investigation, the suspect would be brought before the court to face appropriate charges for her reprehensible behavior.
