Aman, Misbahu Salihu, 28, is accused of poisoning his day-old daughter to death in Kano State, North-West Nigeria, allegedly due to his preference for a male child.
Salihu, a resident of Doka Baici community in the Tofa Local Government Area, reportedly administered poison to the baby girl because he had been hoping for a male child.
The Islamic police, Hisbah, apprehended him, as confirmed by its Deputy Commander-General, Mujahid Aminuddeen. Aminuddeen stated on Saturday that the suspect admitted to giving the baby a local insecticide.
“Salihu also drugged the mother of the baby, Sa’ade, with a cup of tea containing sleeping tablets before committing the crime,” Aminuddeen reported.
The suspect’s confession revealed that his preference for a male child led him to take the tragic step of ending the life of his newborn daughter. He has now been turned over to the police for further investigation and potential prosecution.
