The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa, has been suspended indefinitely by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The decision was made in order to facilitate a thorough investigation into allegations of serious misconduct and abuse of office against Bawa.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Bawa has been instructed to immediately hand over his responsibilities to the Director of Operations at the EFCC. The Director of Operations will assume the role of overseeing the Commission’s operations until the investigation is concluded.

The statement reads as follows: “President Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension of AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, from his position as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. This decision aims to ensure a proper investigation into Bawa’s conduct while in office, given the serious allegations of abuse of office against him. Mr. Bawa has been directed to promptly transfer the responsibilities of his office to the Director of Operations at the Commission, who will manage the Chairman’s responsibilities until the investigation is completed.”
