A 36-year-old man, Daisi Alade, has been remanded in Olokuta Correctional Centre by a Family Magistrate’s Court in Oke-Eda, Akure. He is facing trial on a one-count charge of child defilement.

According to police prosecutor Martins Olowofeso, the alleged offence occurred on August 27, 2023, around 10 pm along Mahin/Igbokoda road in Ugbonla, Ondo State. It is claimed that Alade lured a 12-year-old girl (name withheld) into a nearby bush and engaged in sexual activity with her without her consent. The girl’s screams were heard by neighbors, who came to her rescue, but Alade had already committed the act.

The charge against Alade states, “That you, Daisi Alade, ‘m’ on August 27, 2023, unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a girl (name withheld) aged 12 years at about 10 pm along Mahin/Igbokoda road, Ugbonla, within the jurisdiction of this Court and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”

The defendant did not enter a plea during the proceedings. The prosecutor requested that Alade be remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre until the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) provides advice on the case.

Senior Magistrate Folasade Aduroja granted the request, ordering the defendant’s remand in the correctional centre until the DPP’s advice is received. The case has been adjourned until November 14, 2023, for mention.
