Five women reportedly dead and four others sustained varying degrees of injuries due to a fatal motor accident at Odumodu junction by Nteje, along Awka-Onitsha expressway, Anambra State.

This happened around the early hours of 7.30am, which involved two vehicles, a Mistibushi L300 bus with registration number: XE245AWK and a commercial Daf/Leyland truck with registration number: T-19094LA.

An eyewitness said the vehicles were heading to Awka and Onitsha respectively when they suddenly collided at the junction.

“The two vehicles got to the spot at same time. Due to the weight of the container being conveyed by the truck, it fell on the bus and crashed, killing five passengers on board, while others were seriously injured,” he said.

Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, Confirmed the crash, attributing the cause to failed portion of the road.

While sympathizing with the deceased family and praying for quick recovery of the victims, Irelewuyi urged motorist to drive with caution, and be observant of their environment while driving.
