The Rivers State High Court in Isiokpo Division, located in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, has issued a temporary order prohibiting the Rivers State House of Assembly and its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, from engaging in any actions related to the impeachment of the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Governor Sim Fubara, represented by his legal counsel Damian Okoro (SAN), submitted a motion ex parte on Wednesday.

This motion led to the Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, the Clerk of the House, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, being served with the issued restraining order.

Justice Ben Whyte, the presiding judge, issued the order as a response to a lawsuit against the defendants. He instructed that all parties involved must uphold the current state of affairs until the resolution of the Motion on Notice.

Subsequently, the case has been adjourned to November 14, 2023, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
