In the early hours of Friday, May 26, 2023, a horrifying incident unfolded in the Kabara and Gwangwazo areas of Kano Municipal Local Government Area. Suspected thugs, believed to be involved in phone snatching, launched a violent attack on residents, resulting in the tragic deaths of six individuals. The community remains in shock and mourning in the wake of this senseless act of violence.

According to witnesses, the assailants, armed with weapons, infiltrated the two communities, targeting unsuspecting victims with their knives. Tragically, some of the deceased were returning from their morning prayers, completely unaware of the impending danger. LIB reported.

Eyewitness accounts shed light on the brutal nature of the attack. A resident named Aminu Auwal described his own narrow escape while witnessing the murder of his neighbor, who was also returning from the mosque. Auwal recalled the chilling details, stating, “I was sent by my mother to fetch water nearby, as I was standing, I saw our neighbor running and shouting for help while they were following him. They got him near where I was staying; they stabbed him to death. I had to run otherwise they would have killed me too. I doubt if they are phone snatchers. The man didn’t carry a phone, and they didn’t collect anything from him.”

Fatima Mukhtar, who lost her younger brother in the attack, expressed her grief and confusion over the incident. She revealed that her brother was brutally slain by the thugs, who also stole his phone. Through tearful eyes, she shared, “We just received the bad news that he was slaughtered by thugs. We don’t know what he did to them. Apart from him, they also killed three more people here. They were buried together.”

The Kano State Police Command, represented by its spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, assured the public that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway. Law enforcement authorities are diligently working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, seeking to bring them to justice.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance to safeguard against such acts of violence. The affected community remains united in grief, seeking solace and answers during this difficult time.
