On Saturday, a fire broke out at the Federal Secretariat, Phase II, Abuja, with the inferno commencing around 2:30 pm. The incident primarily impacted Block C of the complex, which houses the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

According to Mohammad Ahmed, the Director of Communications at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the fire originated from an explosion in the Electrical Utility Room on the third floor of Block C.

This particular room served as a solar and inverter room for the current occupant, the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The prompt response of personnel from the Federal and FCT Fire Services brought the situation under control by approximately 5:00 p.m. The incident affected utility rooms spanning from the second to the eighth floors of the building.

During the operation, the Permanent Secretaries of the Common Services Office-OHCSF, Mrs. Lydia S. Jafiya, and Special Duties Office, Faruk Yusuf Yabo, along with directors from the affected MDAs, were present on the scene.
