A United Methodist Church Reverend, Rev Oscar Mukahanana, has tragically taken his own life after a scandal involving his adultery became public within the church’s WhatsApp group.

Reports from local news platforms in Zimbabwe reveal that Rev Oscar Mukahanana, the District Superintendent of Harare East, could not bear the shame and reportedly committed suicide on Friday, October 20.

The scandal revolved around his involvement in an adulterous relationship with a female youth member of the UMC. Leaked WhatsApp audio messages exposed clandestine meetings between the District Superintendent and the church member.

In these audios, he expressed his satisfaction about a personal encounter with the young woman, even noting that it occurred just before her menstrual cycle.

After the audio recordings were made public within the church’s WhatsApp group, his fellow church members responded with ridicule and mockery. They not only forwarded the content to other groups but also created memes that further ridiculed the District Superintendent in light of the adultery scandal.

UMC Harare District issued a statement confirming the untimely death of Rev Oscar Mukahanana, saying:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved District Superintendent, Rev Oscar Mukahanana of the Harare East District. The Office of the Bishop will keep the church informed regarding developments and funeral arrangements. As a Church, we kindly request your support through prayers for the Mukahanana family during this difficult time.”
