Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, has brought the urgent matter of total reconstruction and resurfacing of federal roads in Delta North to the attention of the Senate. This comes after he recently unveiled his noteworthy projects and employment monitoring committees.

Addressing the chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc committee on roads, Senator Nwoko emphasized the urgent need for attention to four crucial federal roads: Benin-Agbor-Asaba road, Abraka-Agbor-Uromi road, Onicha Ugbo-Idumuje Ugboko-Ewohimi road, and Asaba-Oko-Okpai-Warri road.

Recognizing the strategic economic importance of these roads in Delta North, Senator Nwoko emphasized that they have not received adequate maintenance or rehabilitation since their initial construction.

In addition to total reconstruction and resurfacing of Benin-Agbor-Asaba road, he further requested the establishment of service stations at various stopovers of the road to alleviate the inconvenience caused by trucks, trailers, and patrol tankers parking on both sides of the road, posing hazards to road users and the road itself.

Presenting a compelling case for the reconstruction of these roads, Senator Nwoko called upon the Senate’s Ad-hoc committee on roads to direct the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to urgently intervene and initiate the much-needed reconstruction and resurfacing of these roads. He also urged collaboration between the Senate committee on Works and the relevant authorities to ensure the full implementation of the Senate’s resolution on road reconstruction.

Additionally, Senator Nwoko requested the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to allocate funds for and oversee the execution of these road projects under the Federal Ministry of Works.

Bring to mind that, the reconstruction and resurfacing of these roads were vital pillars of his senatorial campaign agenda, showcasing his commitment to address the region’s infrastructure challenges.

It speaks volumes about his dedication that, in just about two months of assuming office, Senator Nwoko has already taken tangible steps and shown proactive efforts in fulfilling his campaign promises.
