A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun state, Dr. Ariyo of the Department of Electrical Engineering, is facing accusations of assaulting a student for refusing to switch off his phone during his class.

In a viral video that has stirred widespread concern, the lecturer could be heard requesting the student to turn off his phone, but he declined.

“You can’t be more than me,” he asserted.

The student remained defiant and did not comply with his directive. It was at this point that the lecturer’s frustration escalated, leading him to forcefully confiscate the phone and even push the student.

Lere Olayinka, a former aide to ex-governor Ayo Fayose, shared the distressing video online, revealing that the student suffered injuries and was bleeding from the assault.

“This is a lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr. Ariyo, from the Department of Electrical Engineering, assaulting a student in his class today. The student is currently bleeding, and his SAMSUNG phone is damaged.”
