During his speech at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Regional Bloc in Guinea Bissau, President Bola Tinubu, who is also the Chairman of ECOWAS, emphasized that the repeated occurrence of coups in West Africa will not be tolerated by ECOWAS. He further stated that ECOWAS will actively address this issue by engaging with the African Union, European Union, Britain, and the United States.

President Tinubu highlighted the complexities involved in managing a democracy but stressed that it remains the most favorable form of governance. He urged ECOWAS to take a proactive stance, stating, “We must assert ourselves; we cannot afford to be passive bystanders within ECOWAS.”
